Kurt Conway is the Senior Vice President of Brand Strategy and Marketing at AvalonBay Communities. Kurt has over twenty years of experience in sales, marketing, and corporate communications.
Conway began their career at Sunrise Senior Living in January 2003. Kurt quickly rose through the ranks and was eventually promoted to Senior Vice President Sales, Marketing & Corporate Communications. In this role, Conway was responsible for leading the marketing and sales organization which comprised of 600+ field sales reps and sales managers, as well as the 15-person corporate team. Kurt was also a member of the operating executive team and a voting member of the investment committee.
During their time at Sunrise Senior Living, Conway achieved industry-leading occupancy levels and 6%+ year-over-year same-store revenue growth. Kurt also successfully reduced sales rep turnover by 15% points by implementing a comprehensive sales development strategy. This strategy included selection tools, a compensation structure, a 90-day on-boarding process, national sales training school, and coaching process. In addition, Conway formulated a market expansion sales and marketing strategy which leased up 82 communities and generated $500 million in stabilized annual revenue.
When Sunrise Senior Living went public in 2006, Conway was tasked with overseeing the company’s communications to all stakeholders including employees, customers, media, and investors. In 2010, Conway left Sunrise Senior Living to join AvalonBay Communities as the Senior Vice President of Brand Strategy and Marketing.
At AvalonBay Communities, Conway is responsible for leading the brand strategy and marketing efforts for the company. Kurt has successfully created campaigns that have resonated with AvalonBay’s target audiences and has helped increase brand awareness and preference. Kurt Conway is a highly respected leader in the field of marketing and sales and they have helped shape AvalonBay Communities into the successful company it is today.
Kurt D. Conway received their Master of Science in Hotel, Restaurant and Travel Administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Kurt also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Michigan.
