Nandu Deorkar

Nandu Deorkar has a diverse work experience in the field of research and development, particularly in the biopharmaceutical industry. They started their career as a Postdoctoral Associate and Research Scientist at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Syracuse University/Mostov Technology in 1993. After that, they worked as a Senior Research Scientist at LigoChem in 1997.

In 1998, Deorkar joined Mallinckrodt (Tycohealthcare) as a Scientist and Senior Research Associate, where they conducted various drug development and biopharmaceutical process-related projects. They worked on the purification and manufacturing of imaging agents, opiates, and development of formulation excipient technologies.

In 2005, Deorkar moved to Covidien/Mallinckrodt as the Director of Research and Development for Pharmaceutical Products. In this role, they directed product development initiatives, established R&D infrastructure, and developed partnerships with academic institutions, companies, and vendors for product licensing and development.

In 2010, Deorkar joined Avantor Performance Materials, Inc./Formerly Mallinckrodt as the Director of Pharmaceutical Research and Development. They enhanced the global pharmaceutical R&D infrastructure, focused on generating new product ideas, and worked on the development and commercialization of new products.

In 2011, they were promoted to Vice President of Research and Development at Avantor Performance Materials, Inc. Here, they led the product development, process development, analytical science, and specialty manufacturing group. They identified opportunities and championed projects leading to the development and commercialization of various biopharmaceutical process and formulation materials.

Currently, Deorkar is the Senior Vice President of R&D for Biopharma Production at Avantor. Their responsibilities include overseeing R&D activities and strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading innovative product launches.

Overall, Deorkar has extensive experience in R&D, with a focus on biopharmaceutical production and formulation materials. They have demonstrated leadership skills and have successfully commercialized various products throughout their career.

Nandu Deorkar obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, from 1986 to 1992. Nandu later pursued a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree at Fairleigh Dickinson University, which they completed from 2003 to 2005.
