Gillian Hendy

Senior Director, Business Development at Avectas

Gillian Hendy began their career in 2005 as a PhD student at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, where they focused on the synthesis and characterization of conducting polypyrrole (PPy) films for the incorporation and controlled release of an important pharmaceutical compound. In 2009, they moved to Analog Devices as a Process Engineer, where they researched and developed a new electroplating line and optimized processes and equipment to sustain and improve product quality, yields and throughput. In 2011, they became a Postdoctoral Associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they designed, synthesized and developed new conducting and biodegradable scaffold materials with the capacity to deliver drugs or growth factors for applications in tissue engineering and nerve cell regeneration. In 2013, they returned to NUI Maynooth as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, where they introduced and set up electrospinning capabilities and learned organic chemistry and synthesized new conducting materials using click chemistry. In 2014, they joined Spraybase, Avectas Ltd as a Business Development Manager, where they identified and built a sales pipeline and identified gaps in the product portfolio. Finally, in 2017, they joined Avectas as the Director of Business Development and Head of Spraybase, where they led the sales and marketing, production, R&D and technology development teams.

Gillian Hendy's education history is as follows: Gillian completed a Postdoctoral fellowship in Regenerative Medicine at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2011 to 2013. In 2015 and 2016, they earned a Postgraduate Diploma in International Selling from Technological University Dublin, through an export sales development programme. In 2005, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemistry at Maynooth University. In 2007, they completed a course in Electropspinning at the University of Wollongong. Gillian also earned a Science BSc in Chemistry from Maynooth University between 2001 and 2005.
