Susan Hinrichs

Susan Hinrichs has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Susan is currently working at Aviatrix as the Chief Scientist, where they have been since June 2022. Prior to that, they worked as the Principal Architect at Aviatrix from September 2021 to June 2022.

Before joining Aviatrix, Susan held positions at The Apache Software Foundation, Verizon Media, Yahoo, Network Geographics Inc., SafelyFiled.com LLC, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Cisco Systems, Global Internet Software Group, and Addamax.

At The Apache Software Foundation, they served as a Member and Traffic Server PMC, contributing to SSL support, enhanced POST processing, and working with WCCP.

During their time at Verizon Media and Yahoo, Susan worked with the Edge group and Apache Traffic Server, developing software to efficiently provide traffic to clients.

At Network Geographics Inc., they held the role of CTO, where they designed and developed network security analysis software and provided consulting services in several areas, including traffic management and attack scenario analysis.

As the Head of Security and Construction at SafelyFiled.com LLC, Susan led the design and development of a cloud-based product, focusing on encryption and data security.

At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, they served as a Lecturer, teaching computer and network security courses.

Susan also has experience as a System Architect at Cisco Systems, a Software Engineer at Global Internet Software Group, and a Test Engineer at Addamax.

Susan Hinrichs earned their B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where they studied from 1985 to 1988. Susan then pursued their Ph.D. in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, where they studied from 1989 to 1995. In addition to their formal education, Susan obtained a certification as a Multi-Cloud Network Professional from Aviatrix in October 2021.
