Executive Chair and Co-founder at Avicena Systems

Paul Watt has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Paul is currently serving as the Executive Chair and Co-founder of Avicena Systems, a public unlisted company focused on developing molecular diagnostic and screening instruments. Prior to this, Paul held positions as the Non-Executive Director at Grow Impact Pty Ltd and Inspiring Holdings Pty Ltd. Paul also served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Australia. At the Telethon Kids Institute, they held the roles of Director of Research Services and Innovation, as well as Associate Director of Research Strategy. Paul was the Founder and Director of Phylogica (PYC Therapeutics), where they utilized peptide libraries for drug discovery. Additionally, they worked as the Chief Scientific Officer and CEO at PYC Therapeutics. Paul also has experience as the Founder and Non-Executive Director of Avita Medical Limited. In their earlier career, they held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Oxford and the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University.

Paul Watt completed their education in a chronological manner. From 1983 to 1986, they attended The University of Western Australia, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science with Honors (B.Sc.(Hons)) in Biochemistry and Microbiology. Following this, from 1987 to 1990, they pursued a D.Phil in Molecular Biology at the University of Oxford. Additionally, Paul Watt received a certification as a Graduate of Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) from the Australian Institute of Company Directors, although the specific date of obtaining this certification is not available.
