Associate Scientist Discovery Biology/Business Development at Avidity

Yuya Fujita, MS, MBA Candidate, has a diverse range of work experience in the field of biology and research. Yuya started their career as a Research Assistant at the UC San Diego Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute, where they conducted bench and animal research on autoimmune disorders and investigated genetic and cytokine effects on rheumatoid arthritis and neuropathic pain. Yuya also served as a Genotyping Manager during their time in this role.

Fujita then worked at the Science and Innovation for the Next Generation (SING) San Diego, where they served as a Medical Research Translator, facilitating communication between English-speaking researchers and Japanese-speaking professionals. Yuya also organized research conferences and meetings to promote networking between scientific professionals.

Following this, Fujita joined the Carson Lab at UC San Diego as a Graduate Research Assistant. Here, they conducted investigations on chemical compounds and their potential effects on the immune system, identifying candidate compounds through high-throughput screening and analyzing their properties in immune responses. Yuya also played a role in identifying specific protein targets of small-molecule drugs.

Subsequently, Fujita worked at Ionis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. as a Scientist, where they coordinated research steps for neurological disease treatments and evaluated the activity and toxicity of antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) through animal studies. Yuya also purified, isolated, and analyzed RNA expression from ASO-treated animals.

Currently, Fujita is employed as an Associate Scientist Discovery Biology/Business Development at Avidity Biosciences, Inc. Their role involves contributing to the discovery biology and business development efforts of the company.

In addition to their research roles, Fujita has also had teaching and representative positions at UC San Diego. Yuya worked as a Teaching Assistant for Japanese language courses, teaching grammar and culture, and also served as a Reader and a B.S./M.S. Program Representative for the UC San Diego Biological Sciences department.
