John Smith has extensive work experience in various roles within the military and defense industry. Starting in 2011, they served as a Command Sergeant Major for the 412th Aviation Support Battalion, responsible for the leadership and welfare of over 825 soldiers in support of contingency operations. John then served as the Garrison Sergeant Major for United States Forces in Afghanistan, overseeing the leadership, training, and readiness of military personnel and civilian employees. In 2014, they became the Support Operations Sergeant Major for a forward deployed Aviation Support Battalion, responsible for planning and executing logistics and sustainment operations. Following this, they served as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major of the largest General Support Aviation Battalion stationed in the Republic of Korea. In 2017, they became the Operations Sergeant Major for the Army's Headquarters responsible for developing and delivering logistics solutions for Army weapon systems. In their most recent roles, they served as a Senior Aviation Program Analyst and On-Site Task Lead for various contracts and projects related to aviation and acquisition systems. Currently, they hold the position of Operations Officer and Senior Program Analyst at Avion Solutions, Inc., where they provide support to develop and meet the requirements of a military organization blending enduring platforms with cutting-edge power systems for U.S. Army Aviation. Throughout their career, John Smith has demonstrated leadership, strategic thinking, and expertise in project management and logistical operations.

John Smith attended Mount Saint Mary College from 1999 to 2001 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and History. During the same period, they also pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Management, General at the same institution. Prior to that, from 1994 to 1999, John attended North Central Institute, where they obtained an Associate of Science degree in Aeronautics/Aviation/Aerospace Science and Technology. In 1996, they earned an FAA General, Airframe and Powerplant License from the Federal Aviation Administration. Additionally, in the same year, they received a General Radiotelephone Operator's License from the Federal Communications Commission, specializing in General Radiotelephone Operator (Elements 1 and 3) and holding a Ship Radar Endorsement (Element 8).
