Kyoung Rok Lee

Principal Computer Vision Engineer at AWM Smart Shelf

Kyoung Rok Lee has worked in various roles in the computer vision field since 2009. In 2009, they worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at UC San Diego, developing algorithms in C++ and CUDA to enhance noisy or low-resolution depth maps using high-resolution color images, and for camera tracking and surface mapping using a handheld RGB-D camera. In 2011, they were an Interim Engineering Intern at Qualcomm Korea, where they developed and simulated a text detection algorithm in natural images based on machine learning technique. In 2009, they were a Software Engineering Intern at Atalgo, Inc., where they developed an object extraction method in C++ for video conference and optimized an existing encoding method to provide high-quality video while reducing the bandwidth required. From 2014 to 2020, they worked at Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence as a Computer Vision Engineer, where they developed a structured-light based 3D stereo vision system, an Augmented Reality (AR) program to visualize scanned pointcloud with Microsoft Hololens, and object classification using tensorflow and 3D pointcloud registration. Currently, they are a Principal Computer Vision Engineer at AWM Smart Shelf, where they are responsible for multi-camera intrinsics and extrinsics calibration, which supports both pinhole and fisheye cameras, and real-time multi-human 3D pose estimation and tracking with multiple calibrated cameras.

Kyoung Rok Lee's education history includes a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UC San Diego (2011-2014), a Master of Science (M.S.) in Computer Science from UC San Diego (2008-2010), and a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering from Kyungpook National University (2001-2008).
