Mike Steer

Mike Steer has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Mike started their career as an IT Technician at UCB from June 1997 to October 2000. Mike then joined HSBC as a Software Developer in January 2001 and worked there until February 2009. During this time, they were involved in migrating legacy Cobol applications, developing Java-based internet banking portals, and facilitating outsourcing initiatives.

In February 2009, Mike joined AxeTrading as a Senior Developer and remained in this role until March 2021. Their responsibilities included full-stack development of a fixed-income electronic trading software, providing technical guidance, and contributing to company-wide engineering practices. Mike then transitioned to the role of Deputy Head of Engineering from March 2021 to February 2022. In this position, they implemented strategies to reduce team interdependence, addressed code monolith breakup, and led the resolution of engineering issues.

Currently, Mike holds the position of Head of Engineering at AxeTrading, which they started in February 2022. Mike has created a comprehensive engineering career path, established a new team structure, and provided plans for effective utilization of the engineering budget to enhance stability and scalability within the company.
