Job description

We are currently seeking a Competition Lawyer to assist a small but dynamic in-house team with managing the response strategy for an MIR initiated by the Competition and Markets Authority. Ideal candidates will have 7-15+ years of expertise in competition law and deep knowledge of the MIR process. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of strategies for responding to Market Investigation References (MIRs) initiated by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), ensuring alignment with legal requirements and client objectives.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to internal legal teams, including managing outside counsel, in all aspects of competition law matters, from risk assessment to compliance initiatives.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis to anticipate regulatory developments, identify potential risks, and recommend proactive measures to mitigate legal exposure and optimize business opportunities.

 Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience practicing competition law in the UK, with a strong focus on regulatory compliance and enforcement actions, preferably within a reputable law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Experience interacting with the Competition and Markets Authority and leading responses to MIRs.
  • Extensive knowledge of UK competition law principles, procedures, and enforcement mechanisms, including a proven track record of successfully navigating complex regulatory challenges and representing clients before regulatory authorities.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal concepts into clear and actionable advice for stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be available to work in-office 3 days/week.
