Glenn Neighbors

Glenn Neighbors is a principal at Ayers Saint Gross with more than 30 years of experience in architecture and planning. In his role as lead designer for both architecture and planning projects, he has helped guide designs ranging from a small campus gateway to large comprehensive university master plans. Regardless of the project type or size, his goal is always to reveal the project’s unique nature and to communicate an identity that is individual and memorable. In addition to his work in higher education, Glenn has developed a design expertise in cultural projects including visitor centers, libraries, art schools, and museums.

Glenn’s design process consists of careful listening to develop a trusting client-architect relationship. A skilled artist, he will often sketch ideas during client workshops to communicate design thought. Glenn approaches design as a problem-solving exercise, which involves searching for clarity, honesty, and authenticity. He values simplicity and quiet rigor and believes design should be guided by sensitivity to place and user.

As part of his project work, Glenn enjoys collaborating with clients and peers and serving as a mentor for junior designers. Some of his favorite projects include the visitor center at Monticello, the National Library for the Study of George Washington at Mount Vernon, Semans-Griswold Environmental Hall at Washington College, and the Missouri Botanical Garden Visitor Center.
