Shelby Temple is an accomplished professional with extensive work experience in various roles and industries. In 1996, Temple started working as a Kayak Guide and Boat Rental operator at Ocean River Sports. From 2001 to 2006, Temple pursued a PhD at the University of Victoria. Following this, Temple joined the University of Queensland as a Postdoctoral Fellow from 2008 to 2010. Temple then worked at the Royal Society of Edinburgh as an Enterprise Fellow in 2016. In the same year, Temple co-founded and became the CEO of Azul Optics, where they served as an inventor and CEO. Temple also held the role of CEO and co-founder at Azul Optics. Additionally, Temple worked as a Senior Research Associate at the University of Bristol from 2011 to 2017, and later as an Honorary Senior Research Associate at the same university. Currently, Temple holds the position of Honorary Professor at Aston University, starting in July 2021.

Shelby began their educational journey in 1992 at the University of Victoria, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Biology. Shelby Temple completed their undergraduate studies in 1998.

After completing their BSc, they continued their academic pursuits at the Memorial University of Newfoundland from 1998 to 2000. During this time, they obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Aquaculture.
