Hiram Garcia is the Principal Environmental Consultant and manages the Contaminated Land Team at Babbage. With over 25 years of professional, hands-on experience, he has designed, managed and implemented contamination investigations and remediation in line with the client’s corporate strategy.Hiram excels at translating complex contamination issues into language that every stakeholder can understand and provides clients with strategic advice on how to manage their contamination liabilities.Hiram’s experience includes assessment of impacts to soil and groundwater from contaminated sites, contaminant fate and transport, environmental chemistry/sampling, environmental and human toxicology, geology and hydrogeology, human health and ecological risk assessment relating to contamination, remediation design/installation/operation, interpretation of data to render recommendations/conclusions, stakeholder engagement, regulatory agency presentations and presentations at public hearings.Hiram earned his Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science with emphasis in toxicology at the University of California, Riverside, USA in 1993 and a geology minor at the California State University, San Bernardino, USA in 2004. He was a registered Professional Geologist for the State of California and has worked on 100s of sites requiring environmental investigations and in-situ remediation for chemical manufacturing, and major global oil and gas clients before moving to New Zealand in 2012. While in New Zealand, Hiram worked as an environmental consultant on a range of projects involving brownfield development, emergency spill response and chemical manufacturing. Hiram earned his Certified Environmental Practitioner Site Contamination Specialist in 2016 and a diploma in Workplace Health and Safety Management (level 6) in 2020.
