Sam Lewando

Mechanical Engineer | PM at Babylon Micro-Farms

Sam Lewando started their work experience in 2015 as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Fire Protection Engineering Department at UMD. They conducted experiments on material flammability and implemented lab safety procedures. From 2016 to 2017, they worked as an Engineering Intern at Eaton Corporation, where they designed and implemented improvements for aerospace components testing. They also created new products in the Seals department and tested components for research purposes. In 2017, they interned as a FreeFlyer Intern at a.i. solutions, supporting the development of orbital dynamics software. In 2019, they worked as an Engineer at Anacostia Aquaponics DC LLC, designing and improving hydroponic and aquaponic systems. They also served as a Site Lead at Cultivate the City, overseeing and maintaining their urban farming sites for three months. Currently, they work at Babylon as a Mechanical Engineer and Project Manager, responsible for managing hardware product timelines, designing components for microfarms, assembling prototypes, and sourcing reliable components.

Sam Lewando earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with Honors in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland. This educational journey took place from 2014 to 2018.
