Gene Meyer has been a board member at Baker University since 2016. Prior to that, they were the President and CEO of Lawrence Memorial Hospital from 1997 to 2016. Gene was selected to lead the turnaround and re-establish a healthy, independent hospital as Columbia HCA threatened a take over.
Under Meyer's leadership, the annual employee turnover rate was cut from 30% to 9.2%. Gene also led the acquisition of an OB-GYN practice and the development of outreach practices in neighboring communities. In addition, they restructured the senior management team and partnered with the board of trustees on strategic initiatives.
During their tenure, the hospital achieved designation as a Level IV Trauma Center in 2014 and a Primary Stroke Center in 2012. Gene also oversaw the expansion of the hospital from one physician practice to 16 affiliations.
Meyer is a recipient of the Kansas Hospital Association’s Charles S. Billings Award and the AHA’s Kansas Grassroots Champion Award.
Gene Meyer's educational career consists of a Master of Business Administration from Rockhurst College and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Rockhurst College.
