John Montgomery

John is the founder of West Group Real Estate, a strategic partner of BakerAvenue. West Group is a leading San Francisco based real estate broker, investment and advisory firm. John has been involved in all phases of the West Group’s development since its founding in 2001.

John is a licensed California attorney and real estate broker. He has broad knowledge and experience in real estate brokerage, construction, real estate finance, real estate taxation and real estate law. John has led West Group through all aspects of the investment process, including sourcing/screening investment opportunities, due diligence, structuring, and negotiating transactions.

John has comprehensive working knowledge of residential and commercial brokerage, ground up development, land-use-entitlement, apartment building investing, condo conversion, tenancy-in-common structures, rent control issues, California Proposition 13 and San Francisco local law. He has unique relationships with community leaders, financial institutions, attorneys, investors, and industry professionals that enable him to create successful projects by structuring innovative partnerships and joint ventures, with all parties working together for the best possible solution.

Previously, John worked as a real estate attorney with Severson & Werson, a San Francisco based law firm. Prior to Severson & Werson, Mr. Montgomery worked with the Hofmann Company, a real estate development company and Bechtel Corporation, one of the largest privately held construction companies in the world. John has been actively involved in a wide array of sophisticated real estate transactions and is a published author.

John holds a B.S. in Construction Management from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo and a J.D. from the Santa Clara University School of Law.
