Mark Overton has extensive work experience in the law enforcement field. Mark started as a Police Detective in the City of Hialeah Police Department in 1984 and held various roles, including Police Officer, Sergeant, and Lieutenant. Mark also served as a Captain of Police in the City of Hialeah from 2002 to 2005. From 2005 to 2012, they returned to the City of Hialeah Police Department, serving as both Deputy Chief of Police and later as Chief of Police. During their tenure, Mark successfully lowered the crime rate by 25 percent and led the department through challenging financial times. In 2012, they joined the City of Miami Beach as the Deputy Chief of Police, where they had operational and administrative authority over all aspects of the police department's day-to-day activities. Finally, in 2014, Mark became the Chief of Police for Bal Harbour Village.

Mark Overton attended Barry University from 1999 to 2003, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Public Administration. After completing their undergraduate studies, they enrolled in the South Police Institute at the University of Louisville. At this institute, they completed the National Sheriffs' Association Executive Leadership Program and Command Officers Development Course.
