Ramanuj Basu has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Ramanuj is currently working as a Senior Counsel at Balance since February 2023. Prior to this, they worked as a Counsel at Clearco from September 2019 to February 2023.
From October 2018 to August 2019, Ramanuj served as a Senior Manager in the Global Sanctions Office at Scotiabank. Ramanuj also held the position of Manager in the same office from May 2017 to September 2018.
Before joining Scotiabank, Ramanuj worked at CIBC as a Lawyer/Senior Analyst in Sanctions/Anti-Money Laundering from October 2014 to April 2017. Ramanuj also gained experience as a Summer Intern at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP in 2014.
Ramanuj began their professional career as a Senior Associate at BMR Legal in 2013, where they worked on Corporate Finance, M&A, and PE transactions, as well as general corporate and regulatory compliance matters. Prior to that, they were an Associate at Desai & Diwanji, specializing in Corporate and M&A deals.
In 2009, Ramanuj was selected to join the start-up legal team at Pricewaterhouse Coopers, focusing on Competition law and providing general corporate advisory services. Before entering the legal field, they worked as an Operations Supervisor at Marks & Spencer, where they supervised stock control and trained new employees from 2005 to 2008.
Ramanuj Basu started their education at Mothers International School, where they completed their Senior Secondary education in subjects such as Maths, Accounts, Business Studies, Economics, and English from 1989 to 2001. In 2001, they enrolled in Symbiosis College of Law, University of Pune and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Law [B.S.L (H)] between 2001 and 2004. Basu further pursued their education at the University of London from 2004 to 2008, completing an LLB (Hons) degree in Law specializing in UK and EU law. In 2008, they attended the University of Aberdeen where they obtained another LLM degree specializing in International Business laws & Competition Law from 2008 to 2009. Finally, in 2013, Basu attended York University - Osgoode Hall Law School to obtain another LLM degree in Banking, Corporate, Finance, and Securities Law, completing their studies in 2014.
