Gary Hughes MRICS is a seasoned commercial professional with extensive experience in the rail sector. Currently serving as the Head of Commercial for the Rail Business Unit at Balfour Beatty plc since January 2024, Gary oversees all commercial elements of the P&L and leads commercial teams. Previously, Gary held the position of Senior Commercial Manager at VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd, managing a turnover of approximately £80-100 million per annum and leading the commercial aspects of the MSVF Joint Venture on the Barking Riverside Extension project. Prior roles include Senior Commercial Manager and Managing Quantity Surveyor at Berkeley Group Plc, contributing to the Southall Waterside Development, and various positions at VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd, where responsibilities included managing live Rail Infrastructure Projects and commercial management under the CP5 Framework. Gary is a graduate of the University of Westminster and Swindon College, with a strong background in contractual negotiations and a commitment to fostering commercial awareness within teams.
