Jagmeet Singh Makkar is a seasoned maritime professional with extensive experience in shipping, arbitration, and training. Currently serving as a Shipping Expert, Maritime Arbitrator, and Professional Trainer at SkillsPlus, Makkar is also a Co-Founder and Director, and a regular speaker at conferences. In addition, Makkar holds advisory and ambassadorial roles with the Gujarat International Maritime Arbitration Centre and The Baltic Exchange, respectively. As Chairman of the Hong Kong Branch of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and a member of various maritime organizations, Makkar contributes significantly to the industry. Makkar’s prior positions include Executive Vice President at Noble Chartering Ltd., where a proven record in managing joint ventures and developing cargo contracts was established. Educational qualifications include a Master’s in Energy, Trade & Finance from Bayes Business School and a Bachelor’s in Marine Engineering.

The Baltic Exchange represents a global community of shipping interests. These include shipowners, charterers and shipbrokers who are collectively responsible for handling a large proportion of the world’s dry cargo and tanker fixtures, freight derivative trades as well as the sale and purchase of merchant vessels. The Baltic Exchange is regulated by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) pursuant to the EU Benchmark Regulation. It is the trusted provider of data for the settlement of physical and derivative freight contracts, underpinning risk management tools for the shipping and transportation markets. Founded in 1744, the Baltic Exchange is headquartered in London with regional offices in Singapore, Shanghai, Athens, Stamford and Houston. In 2016 the Baltic Exchange was acquired by Singapore Exchange ("SGX").
