James Thurman

James Thurman is an experienced educational leader currently serving as a Resident Principal at Baltimore City Public Schools since 2018. With a robust background in literacy instruction, Thurman has held roles such as Literacy Coordinator for Instructional Coaching and Blueprint Literacy Coach. Prior experiences include serving as Assistant Principal at School District 205 and Dean of Students at both School District U-46 and Proviso East High School. James began a teaching career in 2007 at Chicago Public Schools, where responsibilities included developing the Freshman curriculum at Kennedy High School and later implementing the same program for Sophomores. Additional roles include Evening School Coordinator at Good Samaritan Ministries and service in the U.S. Army as a Land Combat Missile Repair specialist. Academic qualifications include a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University Chicago, a Master of Arts in Secondary Education from National Louis University, and a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
