John Goodwin has a diverse work experience in the music industry. John started their career as a Rehearsal Pianist at the Chicago Symphony Chorus in 1998. In 2001, they joined Uniting Voices Chicago as a Principal Pianist/Resident Conductor. At the same time, they also worked as a Choral Pianist at Roosevelt University until 2023. In 2003, they became the Chorus Master at the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra until 2012. Moreover, they served as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Music at Northwestern University from 1991 to 2002. Additionally, they worked as a Collaborative Artist at Ravinia Festival's Steans Institute for Young Artists Vocal Program from 1994 to 1999. Overall, John Goodwin has a strong background and expertise in conducting, piano playing, and choral music.

John Goodwin attended The University of Memphis from 1983 to 1986. John then pursued a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano performance at Birmingham-Southern College from 1987 to 1990. Following this, they obtained a Master of Music degree in Piano performance from Northwestern University from 1990 to 1991.
