With experience on the Board of Directors at BART and as Director of Commerce and Trade for the City and County of San Francisco, James has a solid foundation in both legal and business sectors. James's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science from University of California, Berkeley and a degree in law from University of California, College of the Law, San Francisco.

In 1971, Bank of the Orient opened its headquarters in the heart of San Francisco’s Financial District to serve the banking needs of the Asian-American community.
