Cara Tilbury

Northeast Regional Executive Director, DE at Banyan Treatment Center

Cara was born and raised on a small family farm in Upstate Western NY and relocated to Delaware in 2012 to expand her opportunities to help individuals and families struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Since Cara joined the team at Banyan Delaware in January of 2021, she has served as the Clinical Director. This has more recently expanded into the Executive Clinical Director role providing oversight and promotion of a safe and healthy recovery environment at the Delaware location. Cara upholds a collaborative patient-centered approach while implementing a strong evidence-based style to her practice and professional management.

Cara has undergraduate degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology and obtained her master’s degree in Psychology with a specialization in Mental Health Applications in 2012. In 2017 she went on to achieve a life goal of her Doctoral Degree in Psychology, specializing in research, training, and treatment of co-occurring severe and persistent mental illness, trauma, and forensic populations. During her graduate and post-graduate career, Cara gained experience working with substance use disorder and personality disorder populations, with a focus on supporting individuals involved in the criminal justice system. Cara is a published doctoral research author in dual-diagnosis and personality disorder treatment. She has since gone on to obtain her Professional Licenses in Chemical Dependency and Social Work, and she also holds certifications in Doctoral Addictions Counseling, Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Co-occurring Disorders Professional - Diplomat status, and Clinical Certification in Counseling and Forensic Counseling. Cara is a proud member of the Golden Key International High Honor Society, the Psi Chi International High Honor Society in Psychology, the American Psychology-Law Society, and the American Psychological Association. Having a strong clinical understanding combined with her passion to promote health and safety to individuals struggling with substance use, mental health, and trauma, Cara is prepared to humbly serve as the Executive Clinical leader for Banyan Delaware. Her background and education foster a strength-based foundation for addiction and co-occurring treatment encompass.
