Johan M.J. van Parys has over 20 years of work experience in the field of worship and sacred arts. Johan M.J. served as the Director of Worship and Sacred Arts at the Basilica of Saint Mary from 1995. In 2003, they joined the Georgetown Center for Liturgy, Spirituality and the Arts as an Art Director, a role they held until 2009.

Johan M.J. van Parys has a diverse education history in the fields of Theology, Archeology, and Art History. Johan M.J. began their educational journey at KU Leuven, where they earned a Ph.L. degree in Archeology and Art History from 1979 to 1983. Johan M.J. then pursued further studies at KU Leuven and obtained an MA degree in Theology from 1984 to 1989. Building upon their knowledge, Johan M.J. van Parys attended the University of Notre Dame, where they completed a Ph.D. in Theology from 1989 to 1995.
