Daniel Kumnick

Associate Director at Bates Smart

Daniel Kumnick is currently the Associate Director at Bates Smart. Daniel has also been a Guest Lecturer at Stanford University School of Engineering and an Associate at Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM). Prior to that, they were a Teaching and Research Assistant at Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Daniel’s work experience has been extremely diversified, giving him a vast skillset to apply to their current role. At Stanford, they co-taught the Integrated Design Studio, which partnered architecture and structure students in the design of a high-rise building in San Francisco, California. As an Associate at SOM, Daniel led design teams of up to six people in the conceptual design, development, documentation, and contract administration of domestic and international projects up to USD$500 million. Daniel was also responsible for overall design quality and output.

Daniel’s experience has shown him to be a highly capable leader with a keen eye for detail. Daniel is able to take on complex projects and see them through from start to finish, making him a valuable asset to any organization.

Daniel Kumnick has a Master in Architecture II from Harvard University Graduate School of Design, a Bachelor of Architecture from University of Melbourne, and a Bachelor of Planning and Design (Architecture) from University of Melbourne. Daniel is also certified by Green Business Certification, Inc. as a LEED AP Building Design & Construction (BD+C), and by the California Architects Board as a Registered Architect.

Their manager is Philip Vivian, Managing Director. They are on a team with Roger Chapman - Associate Director, Peter Ohnrich - Associate Director, and Helen Cooper - Associate Director.
