Rebecca Buckman

Marketing Partner at Battery Ventures

Becky leads Battery’s marketing and communications program, overseeing firm branding, communications, content, events, community and social media. As a member of the firm’s portfolio-services team she also works closely with Battery’s partner companies to provide both strategic and tactical communications counsel–ranging from messaging/narrative advice to crisis communications to IPO strategy. Becky joined the firm in 2013 after running her own strategic-communications practice providing branding, positioning and media-related services to Silicon Valley investment firms and high-tech startups.

Prior to that Becky worked for many years as a business journalist, including ten years at the Wall Street Journal in its New York, San Francisco and Hong Kong bureaus. She covered topics including Wall Street, technology trends and Asian economics and trade. At the Journal, Becky’s reporting was honored by groups including Amnesty International, the Newswomen’s Club of New York and the American Association of University Professors. She was a finalist for the Gerald Loeb Award in 2007. After leaving the Journal, Becky joined Forbes as a senior editor, where she specialized in technology and venture capital. Previously she wrote for the Dow Jones News Service and the Indianapolis Star, where she was a Pulliam Fellow.

Becky graduated Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, where she earned a degree in international politics. Currently she serves on the executive committee of the National Venture Capital Association’s Strategic Communications group, speaks frequently on brand building and, in her personal life, is a Girl Scout troop leader and avid youth baseball fan.
