Maarten Van Heel has extensive work experience in various roles within the energy industry. Maarten is currently serving as the Head of Projects & Engineering at Battolyser Systems since October 2021.

Prior to their current position, they worked at Shell for a total of 10 years. From 2016 to 2021, they held the position of Senior Analyst - Capital & Carbon Efficiency Improvement Program, where they focused on improving capital and carbon efficiency within the company. Before that, they served as the Project Portfolio Lead from 2016 to 2020, responsible for managing and overseeing project portfolios.

Additionally, they worked at Shell as a Pipeline & Project Engineer for the Schoonebeek Redevelopment Project from 2010 to 2011. Prior to that, they worked at Shell International Exploration & Production from 2006 to 2009, where they held different roles including Pipeline Project Engineer for the Corrib Project in Ireland, Pipeline Engineer, and Pipeline Engineer for Sakhalin Energy.

Earlier in their career, they gained experience as an Intern Pipeline Engineer at Sakhalin Energy in 2005. Maarten also worked as a Chef at Ruif from 2003 to 2005.

Maarten Van Heel obtained their Executive MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University in 2019. Prior to this, they completed their MSc in Offshore Engineering at Delft University of Technology from 2004 to 2006. Earlier, Maarten earned their BSc in Civil Engineering from the same university, studying from 1999 to 2004.
