Raffaella Rossi has a diverse work experience in the field of bioassay development and vaccine testing. Raffaella is currently working as the Director of the Bioassay Group at Bavarian Nordic since 2023. Prior to this, they held the position of Director of Analytical Development at Emergent BioSolutions from 2018 to 2023. In this role, they were responsible for leading the Bioassay Group and overseeing the development of various assays for vaccine testing. Before joining Emergent BioSolutions, Raffaella worked at PaxVax, Inc. as a Scientist III in the Bioassay Development department from 2017 to 2018. Raffaella also has experience at Synergenics as a Scientist Assay Development and at Dynavax Technologies/Contractor as a Scientist I - Contractor, where they focused on bioassay and immunoassay development. Raffaella has also worked as an Assistant Staff Scientist and a Postdoctoral Fellow at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, and as a Post-doc at Institut Pasteur and a PhD student at Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. Their research experience includes investigating commensal bacterial contribution to colon cancer and studying the interaction between embryonic stem cells and pathogens. Raffaella began their career as a Research Assistant at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland and Chiron Corporation where they were involved in protein candidate research for vaccines and monoclonal antibody production.
Raffaella Rossi has an extensive education history. Raffaella obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Host-Pathogen Interaction, Immunology, and Microbiology from the University of Cambridge, Sanger Institute in the years 2004 to 2008. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biotechnology from Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna from 1995 to 2000.
In addition to their formal education, they have also pursued additional certifications. In March 2020, they completed a course called "Proven Tips for Managing Your Time" from LinkedIn. In February 2020, they obtained a certification in "Ways to Build a Winning Team: Trust, Freedom, and Play" from LinkedIn. Furthermore, they completed the FACSAria Operator Training from BD Biosciences in Erembodegem, Belgium, in May 2007. One important note is that they attended a program in Project Management x470 at UC Berkeley Extension in 2016 but did not receive a degree for it.
