Job Location: The Central Executive Management Office of BBMRI‐ERIC in Graz, Austria with home office options

Job Purpose: As data strategist, you will lead the development of the data strategy for BBMRI-ERIC, one of the largest European research infrastructures in the life sciences. Your excellent communication and project management skills underline that successful strategies are not necessarily characterised by being right from the start, but by being regularly reviewed (validation & verification) for success and adjusted if necessary. In this role you will contribute to European developments and work on cross-cutting health issues.

Contract: As work-life balance is a high priority at BBMRI-ERIC less than a full-time contract (40 hours/week) can be agreed (e.g. ~80%)

Who we are:

BBMRI-ERIC is the European research infrastructure for biobanking and biomolecular resources. As one of the largest European Research Infrastructures in Life Science with 24 Member States plus IARC/WHO, we bring together all the main players from the biobanking and biomolecular resources field – researchers, biobankers, industry, and patients – to boost biomedical and life science research. To that end, we offer quality management services, support with ethical, legal and societal issues, a number of online tools and software solutions and biobanking development. Ultimately, our goal is to enable personalised medicine to the fullest.

What makes the job special (key responsibilities and accountabilities)?

• Lead the development of the data strategy for BBMRI-ERIC in collaboration with BBMRI-ERIC leadership team;

• Connect with National and Organizational Nodes of BBMRI-ERIC to prepare datafication plans for biobanks, including identification of tools, solutions and best practices to implement the strategies

• Engage with stakeholders of BBMRI-ERIC to collect and analyze their needs and contribute to defining the IT strategy to support implementation of these needs

• Coordinate data strategies with other ESFRI infrastructures in the life sciences cluster and beyond as strategic interface

• Identify funding opportunities and develop and implement international projects that support the implementation of BBMRI-ERIC’s IT and data strategy

• Contribute to major ongoing and upcoming large-scale projects including EvolveBBMRI, IntegrateLMedC, EOSC4Cancer, EHDS2 Pilot, and ERDERA

• Represent BBMRI-ERIC IT communities in international organizations and initiatives (ISO, RDA, GA4GH, EHDS, EOSC, ESFRI, UNCAN), on high-level European and international policy meetings and contribute to the development of funding opportunities for BBMRI-ERIC communities

• Realize your varied working day and your challenging tasks within an international IT team, in which personal development and a high degree of freedom play an important role

In this role your required qualifications and skills are:

• PhD or similar experience in biomedical/lifesciences or medical informatics or computer science with focus on biomedical/life science applications
• Experience with EC projects or other international projects, preferably in the role of coordinator or work package lead
• Strong communication, coordination and project management skills (keeping time lines, verification & validation, resource planning, …)
• Independent and self driven working style with experience in leadership position
• Good understanding of the EU-landscape of EU Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) and other on-going actions (EOSC, RDA, European Digital Spaces, etc.)
• Experience in handling sensitive, clinical data at both technical and policy levels is an advantage
• Scientific publishing experience is an advantage
• Experience from both the public and the private sector is an advantage
• Excellent communication in English (oral and written), as English is the official working language of BBMRI-ERIC
• Ability to deal with challenges in a diplomatic manner
• Readiness for moderate travel

Employment Terms and Conditions

As we aim to provide a diverse work environment, the work can be performed at the headquarters in Graz with home office options.

The employment follows the Austrian employment law.

What we offer

€ 91,000.00 as minimum annual gross salary, based on 40 hours/week, (European/international standards for similar roles and responsibilities and requirements considered); final salary dependents on terms of qualifications and experience.
