Dr Petrus W Roelvink

Dr. Petrus W Roelvink has extensive work experience in the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industries. Dr Petrus W is currently the Head of Research at Benitec Biopharma Inc., where they manage staff in current programs and identifies new programs. Dr Petrus W is also involved in regulatory activities such as IND/CTA filings. From 2015 to the present, Dr. Roelvink served as the Senior Director of Research at Benitec Biopharma, where they were responsible for day-to-day operations at the company site in Hayward, CA. Dr Petrus W managed a team of scientists and worked with external partners on assay validation and manufacturing of viral vectors.

Before joining Benitec Biopharma, Dr. Roelvink was the Founder and CEO of Clearview Biologics LLC from 2009 to 2013, where they provided consulting services to various biotechnology and biopharmaceutical companies. Dr Petrus W specialized in research and manufacturing of biologics, including gene therapy viral vectors and cell-based biological products. Dr Petrus W also consulted exclusively with Sillajen on oncolytic Vaccinia vectors during this time.

From 2008 to 2009, Dr. Roelvink worked as the Director of R&D at MedImmune. Dr Petrus W directed research activities in the Cell Biology and In Vivo groups for virology, focusing on respiratory viral agents and pulmonary delivery methodology.

Prior to that, from 2006 to 2008, Dr. Roelvink was the Associate Director of R&D at Clontech Laboratories Inc. Dr Petrus W was responsible for evaluating and converting emerging technologies into reagent tools, and their team played a role in the successful launch of the Proteotuner technology.

Dr. Roelvink's earlier experience includes working as a Senior Scientist at Avocel Inc and Benitec Inc from 2003 to 2006, where they led the start-up of the scientific operations and managed research programs related to RNA interference and viral diseases. Dr Petrus W also conducted research on adenovirus vectors at GenVec from 1994 to 2003, focusing on retargeting the vectors to specific cells.

Dr. Roelvink began their career as a Research Fellow at the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research at Cornell University from 1992 to 1994, where they conducted research on a protein called enhancin and its effect on insect larvae.

Throughout their career, Dr. Roelvink has demonstrated expertise in various areas of biotechnology and biopharmaceutical research and has contributed to numerous patent applications and intellectual property filings.

Dr Petrus W Roelvink has a strong educational background in the field of molecular biology. Dr Petrus W first pursued a 2nd and 3rd Degrees in Teaching, specializing in biology and chemistry, at the Teachers Training College Utrecht, the Netherlands from 1974 to 1979. Following this, they attended the State University of Utrecht, The Netherlands where they obtained a Masters degree in Biology, focusing on molecular botany, plant physiology, and phytopathology from 1979 to 1984. Lastly, they pursued their Doctor of Agricultural Science (PhD) degree in Molecular Biology at Wageningen University & Research from 1984 to 1992.
