Scott Thomas

Director Of The Graduate Tax Program & Senior Lecturer at Bentley University

Scott Thomas has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of taxation. Scott began their career as a Summer Law Clerk at the Internal Revenue Service in 1987. Scott then worked at Deloitte from 1988 to 1997, starting as an Associate and progressing to Senior Manager in the Tax Group. At Deloitte, they were one of the founders of the Total State Tax Solutions practice and played a key role in implementing multistate tax planning strategies.

In 1997, Scott Thomas joined Coopers & Lybrand LLP as a Director before moving to Deloitte & Touche LLP in 1998, where they became a Partner. During their time at Deloitte, they developed a training program and taught the Total State Tax Solutions process to professionals. Scott also built a database to facilitate the exchange of best practice materials.

Scott Thomas then joined RSM McGladrey, Inc as a Director in 2005 before joining UHY Advisors, Inc in 2006 as the Tax Regional Managing Partner for New England. Scott led a team of 60 professionals and successfully rebuilt an underperforming office, increasing regional revenues.

In 2008, Scott Thomas joined Andersen Tax as a Partner, specializing in multistate income tax and sales tax for corporations, flow throughs, and individuals. Scott represented clients in the appeals process and identified refund opportunities through planning.

From 2014 to 2020, Scott Thomas served as the Director of the Graduate Tax Program at Bentley University, where they taught taxation courses to graduate and undergraduate students. Scott also taught legal and ethical issues for businesses and delivered courses in a hybrid environment. Additionally, they were an Adjunct Faculty member at Babson College during this time.

During their tenure at Bentley University, Scott Thomas also worked as a Senior Advisor at DGC (DiCicco, Gulman & Company) from 2020 to 2022.

Scott Thomas has a B.A. degree from the University of Connecticut, which they obtained from 1980 to 1984. Scott further pursued education at the same institution from 1989 to 1991, obtaining an LLM degree in Taxation. Additionally, Scott Thomas is licensed to practice law in Connecticut.
