Kjiersten Fagnan

CIO Joint Genome Institute at Berkeley Lab

Kjiersten Fagnan is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in data science, bioinformatics, and high-performance computing. Currently serving as CIO at the Joint Genome Institute of Berkeley Lab since April 2010, Kjiersten oversees a $17 million budget, spearheaded the creation of the Data Science and Informatics Department, and expanded it to over 40 members within two years. Previous roles include leading the Data Science Engagement Group at NERSC, coordinating HPC initiatives as the JGI-NERSC Engagement Lead, and contributing as a Bioinformatics and High-Performance Computing Consultant. Kjiersten co-founded The IQ Collective and held a consulting position at Apple, alongside a research assistantship at the University of Washington. Academic credentials include a PhD in Applied Mathematics, an MBA from UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business, and a BA in Applied Mathematics with Computer Science.
