Samuel Williams is a Senior Scientist at Berkeley Lab, having contributed significantly to the field of computational research since January 2005. With a strong background in performance modeling, algorithm design, and automatic performance tuning, Samuel has led efforts in developing the Roofline performance model and applying it to manycore CPUs and GPUs. Samuel's interdisciplinary collaborations have involved applied mathematicians, computational chemists, and other scientists to optimize computational efficiency for diverse scientific problems. Samuel holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, along with Master’s and multiple Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics from Southern Methodist University. Prior experience includes roles at UC Berkeley and Cyrix Corporation in research and intern capacities.
