Eric Hobbs

President, Global Operations at Berkeley Lights

Eric Hobbs, Ph.D. joined Berkeley Lights in March 2013 and currently serves as president, Global Operations. Dr. Hobbs is responsible for the Company’s global operations, including Manufacturing, Quality, Product Engineering & BioFoundry Services, Hardware Operations, Facilities and more.

Previously, Dr. Hobbs was CEO of Berkeley Lights from March 2017 – March 2022, and under his leadership, the Company realized a more than ten-fold revenue increase, released multiple transformational products and completed a success IPO in 2020. Prior to Berkely Lights, Dr. Hobbs served as a senior executive at FormFactor, Inc., where he designed, developed and launched multiple product architectures and led various functions including Operations, R&D and Marketing. He is a named inventor on more than 80 U.S. and International patents.

Dr. Hobbs earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering the University of Southern California, a B.A. in Liberal Arts with minors in Mathematics and Physics from Saint Mary’s College of California, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in MEMS Design and Microfluidic Devices at University of California, Berkeley.
