Vice Chair at Berkshire Hathaway Energy

Gregory E. Abel, 57, joined Berkshire Hathaway Inc.’s Board of Directors in January 2018 as vice chairman – non-insurance operations.

Berkshire Hathaway and its subsidiaries engage in diverse business activities including insurance and reinsurance, utilities and energy, freight rail transportation, finance, manufacturing, services and retailing.

Mr. Abel serves as Berkshire Hathaway Energy’s executive chairman and has served on the board of directors since 2000. He held the position of chairman from 2011-2018, chief executive officer from 2008-2018 and president from 1998-2018. Mr. Abel joined BHE in 1992 and has extensive executive management experience in the energy industry with strong regulatory and operational skills, including international experience.

Berkshire Hathaway Energy is a diversified global holding company that owns subsidiaries principally engaged in energy businesses in the United States, Canada, Great Britain and the Philippines. The Berkshire Hathaway Energy businesses include AltaLink, L.P., BHE Pipeline Group, BHE Renewables, BHE U.S. Transmission, HomeServices of America, Inc., MidAmerican Energy Company, Northern Powergrid Holdings Company, NV Energy, Inc. and PacifiCorp.

Mr. Abel serves as a director and vice chairman of Associated Electric & Gas Insurance Services Limited, a mutual insurance company, and serves on the board of directors for The Kraft Heinz Company, AEGIS Insurance Services, Inc., a managing general agent for the AEGIS mutual insurance company, AEGIS London, a managing agency operating the AEGIS London Syndicate at Lloyd's, and the Hockey Canada Foundation. Recent past board service includes the Mid-Iowa Council Boy Scouts of America executive board, Drake University board of trustees and American Football Coaches Foundation board of directors.
