Patrick Schmitz

Patrick has close to a 30-year career working in the field of mental healthcare after earning a degree in Educational & Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 1990. He has worked in Day Treatment and Community Support with individuals suffering severe and persistent mental health diagnoses; provided therapy for the entire age range and full diagnostic categories to individuals, couples, and families.

Patrick worked within individual communities, across multiple communities and counties within the state of Iowa, and held advocacy and leadership roles throughout his career. He served as the senior administrator of two mental health centers in Iowa for 18 years prior to coming to Lawrence.

At Bert Nash, he oversees a staff of nearly 200 professionals and dozens of volunteers who serve the citizens of Douglas County by responding to needs, restoring lives, and building a healthy community.
