Chief Learning Officer at Best Buy

Melanie Cornell is the chief learning officer for Best Buy Co. Inc. In this role, she is responsible for creating a holistic learning strategy for all the company’s employee training programs, leadership development and sales enablement.

Melanie has 20 years of corporate and field leadership experience in retail, giving her unique insight into the learning tools and resources employees need to develop their skills in ways that better serve customers, achieve desired business results and help them grow in their careers.

Under her leadership, Best Buy’s learning and development team is focused on leveraging the latest technologies to create more effective and efficient outcomes for the company and enable a more flexible workforce for the future.

She first joined the company in 2000 as a part-time asset protection specialist at a store in Michigan. She became a general manager in 2006 and quickly climbed the ranks to district manager and territory sales manager. She then served as vice president of national sales, overseeing the company’s Pacific Sales premium appliance business.

Melanie most recently served as a territory vice president, overseeing the day-to-day operations for hundreds of stores in the Northeast. She delivered strong business results as well as company-leading employee and customer satisfaction metrics.
