Senior Title Examiner / Underwriting Support

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive individual to serve as a Senior Title Examiner for Best Homes Title Agency and BHT Commercial Title & Escrow Services. The candidate must be confident examining and preparing all residential and commercial title insurance products that vary in complexity, whether previously abstracted or requires direct abstracting, examination, and preparation of the title commitment. The candidate must be proficient in mapping metes and bounds legal descriptions, and not intimidated by client expectations or learning guidelines and procedures for our multi-state operation.

You are great communicator who is ambitious, proactive, resourceful and at your best when thrown a variety of challenges which require solutions. You are comfortable with technology and confident in utilizing your knowledge of title insurance underwriting guidelines; however, never hesitate to seek guidance when presented with a new situation or nuance. You are not intimidated by high client service level expectations or challenges associated with meeting those timelines.

Requirements, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • This is an on-site position in Farmington Hills, MI
  • 5 to 10 years of title insurance industry experience.
  • Technically proficient with search and underwriting guidelines, concepts and risk associated with all residential and commercial title products.
  • Knowledge of technology including common business software platforms as well as common title and escrow software systems used by the title insurance industry, including but not limited to Resware, Data Trace, Title Point and numerous state, county, and municipal sites.
  • Ability to provide assistance and backup to all title department staff.
  • Ability to communicate directly and confidently with Underwriting Counsel, providing a detailed accounting of difficult title issues and potential solutions to overcome those issues.
  • Ability to handle basic title clearance issues with acquired knowledge and provide professionally written responses or direction to clients and staff.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to our clients and internal staff members.
  • Knowledge of New Construction, with the ability to perform an Underwriting Review of Sworn Statements and Waivers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Leads by example, has high quality standards, and provides educational assistance and constructive feedback to team members.
  • Additional duties as may be assigned by Manager.
