Peter Watson

Chair at BG&E

Peter Watson joined BG&E as the Non-Executive Chair in June 2021 and is also the Chair of the People & Remuneration Committee. Based in Melbourne, he is a captain of industry and Board executive, with considerable experience in the construction and engineering consulting arenas. In addition to his role at BG&E, Peter is currently a Consultant at Schiavello Group and Stephenson Mansell Group, where he coaches and mentors’ senior executives, and is a Non-Executive Director at Downer Group. Previously, Peter served as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Broadspectrum (formerly Transfield Services) for ten years and during that period, he cultivated an environment of robust governance and high-performance. Upon leaving Broadspectrum, he fulfilled various Executive Chair roles including, leading the Boards of Logicamms, Watpac and AssetCo Management, a company managing Public Private Partnerships’ assets, and the Victorian Department of Transport (Regional Rail Link Authority). He made significant contributions to the respective governance, audit and health and safety committees. Peter is the former Independent Chair of the Ross River Solar Farm, and a previous Board Member of Infrastructure Australia, Major Transport Infrastructure Board, Yarra Trams and Save the Children. He started his career as a civil engineer and completed a Wharton Advanced Management Programme at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, and a Member of the Institute of Engineers in Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He’s passionate about his family and in particular, his four grandchildren and a life-long fan of the Essendon Football Club.
