Kevin Guay

Director, IT at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences

Kevin Guay is the Director of Information Technology at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences. Kevin has been in this position since January 2017. Prior to that, Kevin was a Software Engineer at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences from June 2015 to January 2017. Kevin's responsibilities at Bigelow Laboratory included writing Python/Flask web apps to boost administrative productivity, managing the full development stack, rewriting the company website using a static compiler rather than a CMS to improve speed and security, and assisting staff with scientific high-performance computing.

From June 2012 to July 2015, Kevin was a Research Assistant at Woods Hole Research Center. Their responsibilities there included acquiring, processing, analyzing, and visualizing large amounts of satellite and field data. Kevin used scripting languages such as R, shell, JavaScript, and Python on a range of systems including in-house Linux clusters and Windows servers as well as offsite systems such as NASA's Advanced Supercomputer (Pleiades). Kevin was the lead author on a peer-reviewed publication and they contributed to numerous others.

From January 2011 to December 2012, Kevin was an Engineer Assistant at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

Kevin Guay graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Environmental Studies.
