Alexander Schmidt

Alexander Schmidt has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over two decades. Alexander began their career as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in 1998. Alexander then moved on to Charité, where they held the positions of Group Leader/Principal Investigator from 2001 to 2005 and Assistant Professor from 2005 to 2008.

In 2005, Alexander joined the National Institutes of Health as an Associate Scientist/Staff Scientist. Alexander worked in this role until 2011. During their time at NIH, they also held the position of Assistant Professor at Charité from May 2005 to April 2008.

After leaving NIH, Alexander joined GSK in 2011 as the Director of Clinical Research and Translational Science. Alexander held this position until July 2016 when they were promoted to Senior Director of Clinical and Epidemiology R&D. Alexander's tenure at GSK lasted until July 2018.

Currently, Alexander Schmidt is working at the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute. Alexander joined the organization in August 2018 as the Clinical Development Leader. In January 2021, they were promoted to the Head of Vaccine Development, where they continue to contribute to the advancement of medical research and development.

Alexander Schmidt obtained their M.D., Ph.D. degree in Medicine and Virology from Freie Universität Berlin. Alexander attended the university from 1988 to 1995.
