Khisi Mdluli

Discovery Project Leader at Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute

Khisi Mdluli has extensive work experience in the field of biomedical research and drug discovery. Khisi most recently held the position of Discovery Project Leader at the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute since 2018. Previously, they worked at TB Alliance for over a decade, serving in various roles including Senior Director, Biology, Director Biology, and Senior Project Leader, Biology. During their time at TB Alliance, Khisi managed a range of clinical trials and research projects focused on developing treatments for tuberculosis. Khisi also collaborated with contractors and contract research organizations (CROs) and was responsible for project planning and communication with upper management.

Prior to TB Alliance, Khisi worked as a Senior Scientist & Group Leader at Cumbre Pharmaceuticals Inc., where they supervised and trained scientists, established an antimicrobial discovery program, and collaborated with contractors and CROs. Khisi also served as a Senior Scientist at Chiron Corporation, where they supervised research teams, led collaborations with international partners, and contributed to the development of natural compound libraries.

Throughout their career, Khisi has demonstrated strong leadership abilities, technical expertise in assay development and high-throughput screening (HTS), and a track record of successful collaborations and project management.
