Helen Thackray

Helen Thackray, MD, serves as the Chief Research and Development Officer at BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since September 2019, where responsibilities include overseeing global discovery, product development, and medical affairs functions. Helen defines the strategic direction for the company’s pipeline and leads the Research, Development, and Medical Affairs organization to advance therapeutic products. Additionally, Helen has been a long-standing member of the Board of Directors at Children's National Medical Center since 1995 and holds previous leadership positions including Chief Medical Officer at GlycoMimetics and various advisory roles at organizations like VERALOX Therapeutics and the Biotechnology Innovation Organization. Helen's educational background includes a medical degree from The George Washington University and a fellowship in Medical Genetics at the National Institutes of Health.
