Shehani Mendis is a seasoned professional in the field of medicinal chemistry and patent science, currently serving as a Sr. Patent Scientist at BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since March 2019. Previous roles include Patent Scientist and Patent Technical Specialist within the same organization, as well as an Assistant Professor at Samford University from August 2018 to February 2019. Mendis gained postdoctoral experience at The Johns Hopkins University from February 2017 to July 2018 and conducted graduate research at The University of Kansas, where significant contributions were made to palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling methods during a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry & Organometallics earned between 2010 and 2015. Additional teaching experience includes roles as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at The University of Kansas and as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
