Uptal Patel

Uptal Patel serves as the Senior Vice President and Head of Development at HI•Bio since September 2024. In addition, Uptal Patel has held various academic positions at Duke University, including tenured Associate Professor and Adjunct Professor, focusing on translational research and health policy in nephrology. With extensive experience in clinical research, Uptal Patel has contributed to multiple interdisciplinary projects funded by notable organizations such as the NIH and FDA. Previous roles include Chief Medical Officer at HI-Bio, Head of Clinical Renal at AstraZeneca, and Executive Director of Clinical Research at Gilead Sciences, among other leadership positions. Uptal Patel has a robust educational background, holding an MD from the University of California, San Francisco, a BA in Chemistry/Biochemistry from UC San Diego, and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
