Kelly Williams has worked in a variety of roles since 2000. Kelly began their career as a Lab Instructor at North Carolina State University in 2000. In 2004, they became a Graduate Researcher at the same university. In 2006, they were an Intern at BioAbility LLC and also a PhD Candidate at UC Davis, where their roles included culture anaerobic microorganisms on a variety of plant-based substrates, quantify products of Clostridium fermentations using HPLC and GC, produce ethanol and methane via co-cultures of Clostridium and methanogens, increase glycosyl hydrolase production by T. reesei through media recipe and pH control strategy development, develop glycosyl hydrolase enzyme production process using lignocellulosic substrates, and analyze data and write reports for campus pilot scale anaerobic digester. Kelly was also a Teaching Assistant- Senior Design at UC Davis. In 2009, they were an Intern at Genentech. From 2014 to 2016, they were a Research Scientist at American Process Inc. and from 2016 to 2020, they were a Fermentation Engineer at Trelys, Inc. Her current role is as Fermentation & DSP Team Lead at Arbiom.

Kelly Williams received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University in 2003, followed by an MS in Biological Engineering from the same institution in 2006. Kelly then went on to earn their PhD in Biological Systems Engineering from the University of California, Davis in 2012. In 2019, they completed a Career Track in Data Science from DataCamp.
