Marieke Aarts has a diverse work experience in the field of science and research. Marieke is currently working as a Principal Scientist at Bi/ond. Prior to this role, they worked at Galapagos as a Team Leader for New Cellular Technologies from September 2021 to November 2022, and as a Senior Scientist for Target Discovery & Validation from July 2018 to August 2021. Before joining Galapagos, they served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences from February 2014 to February 2017. Marieke also held the position of Postdoctoral Training Fellow at The Institute of Cancer Research from January 2011 to December 2013. Marieke Aarts started their career as a PhD student at The Netherlands Cancer Institute from January 2004 to June 2010. Marieke gained experience as an intern at British Columbia Cancer Research Centre in 2003, and as a research technician at Sappasitiprasong Hospital in Thailand in 2003. Earlier in their career, they completed an internship at UMC Utrecht in the Department of Medical Microbiology from February 2002 to November 2002, and at the Department of Metabolic and Endocrine Diseases from May 2001 to November 2001.
Marieke Aarts completed their MSc in Biomedical Sciences at Utrecht University from 1998 to 2003. Prior to that, they attended St.-Odulphuslyceum from 1992 to 1998, where they pursued their Gymnasium education.
