Chris McCarthy

Honorary Research Fellow at Bionics Institute

Chris McCarthy is an accomplished academic and researcher specializing in computer science and software engineering, currently serving as an Associate Professor at Swinburne University of Technology since March 2015. McCarthy's research focuses on computer vision applications in robotics, augmented reality, and visual prosthetics, with ongoing contributions as an Honorary Research Fellow at the Bionics Institute. Previously, McCarthy held various research positions, including Senior Researcher at NICTA, where expertise in vision processing algorithms for the visually impaired was developed. McCarthy's educational background includes a PhD in Computer Vision and Robotics from The Australian National University, complemented by a Master’s and Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Melbourne. Key achievements include project management of human mobility trials and collaboration on pioneering algorithms for bionic vision systems.
