Trey Suntrup

Principal, BioGenerator Ventures at BioSTL

Trey is an experienced scientist, engineer, product developer, venture investor and startup founder. He is currently a Principal with BioGenerator Ventures, an early-stage life sciences and healthcare venture fund based in St. Louis. In his role, Trey focuses on the device and digital health verticals and is responsible for sourcing, due diligence, deal execution and ongoing portfolio management.

Prior to BioGenerator, Trey was the Head of Product at digital health startup Readout Health, where he led the successful commercial launch of the BIOSENSE breath ketone meter and connected mobile app while directing all hardware, firmware, and software development. He also spearheaded Readout’s clinical development efforts. This included collaborating with leading medical centers around the world to integrate remote biomarker monitoring into their clinical trials and designing and executing a trial that validated the clinical grade accuracy of the BIOSENSE device compared to gold standard diagnostics.

Trey was formerly a Venture Capital Fellow with the BioGenerator investment team where he helped evaluate device and digital health investment opportunities. He also served as an investment analyst at Cultivation Capital and RiverVest Venture Partners, two St. Louis based life sciences funds.

Trey received a Bachelor of Science in physics and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from The University of Texas at Austin. He completed his Ph.D. in physics and electrical engineering at The University of California, Santa Barbara and his postdoctoral training in Translational Science, Clinical Research, and Entrepreneurship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
